Isaiah 6:5-7
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

When confronted with the holiness of God, the prophet Isaiah laments his own sin and wretchedness in comparison. God’s response (through his angel) says so much about His holiness. Notice he does not say, “Try harder. Be better. Work smarter.” Instead, the angel cleanses Isaiah with a coal.

As you read this passage again, listen for places in your life where you fall short of God’s holy standard. Instead of determining to buckle down and get holy, ask God to do what only He can do - to cleanse you and atone for your sins.
