I once spent a whole month reflecting on the same few verses of scripture. I don’t say that as a humble brag – just know that I was so tired, it was all I could do to read the same verses each day, and pray for God to make them real to me. I say that only to demonstrate that our second week in Psalm 1 doesn’t have to be boring or a waste of time. God can use a few verses to sustain us when we need it – and he often has something new, even if a passage of scripture feels familiar or mundane. So let’s read Psalm 1 together.

Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

    whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!

    They are like chaff

    that the wind blows away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Do you feel the Lord watching over you, even as you read this passage today? As we read it a second time, imagine him speaking these words over you, watching you with affection and care, and calling you blessed.

I hope you are able to walk through the rest of this week, head held high, as a blessed and loved child of God.
